Dr. Wendy Scholten-Peeters

The research Dr. Wendy Scholten-Peeters conducts focuses mainly on effectiveness, safety and underlying mechanisms (such as neuro-physiological, immunological mechanisms) of manual therapeutic interventions with patients with musculoskeletal pain, and neck pain in particular. Furthermore, she researches diagnostic and prognostic models in patients with neck pain and cervical radiculopathy. She mainly conducts clinical studies which results are usable for both clinical practice and education. As co-supervisor Wendy is connected to Martijn Stenneberg ‘s and Marije Sleijser’s PhD trajectories at SOMT University of Physiotherapy.

Wendy has a background in physiotherapy, and got her Masters degree in Manual Therapy (with honors) from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 1996. She finished her PhD titled ‘Whiplash and its management’ at the Catholic University Nijmegen, Center for Quality of Care Research in 2004. From 1996 until 2008, she taught at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and was guest lecturer at the University Genua in Italy. She also worked as manual therapist at the ‘Rugcentrum’ in Uden, and started teaching at SOMT University of Physiotherapy in 2005. From 2009 until 2014, Wendy worked as a senior researcher at the Diagnostics program at the Avans University of Applied Sciences and the Erasmus MC. Since 2014 she is works as associate professor at the Faculty of Behavioral and Movement Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
